A Slow Day at the Inn

Veronica sighed and drummed her fingers on the counter. There had been no visitors all day. She glanced over at Isolde. She was sitting on a bar stool, head in her arms, half-asleep. The sunlight filtered through the window, and even though it had but the two Sheikah as occupants, it was uncomfortably stuffy.

Veroica sighed again and rested her head on the counter, closing her eyes drowsily.

As Iza walked oin, the bells on the door rang and it looked as though they had startled the two Sheikah. But Iza kept walking, as if all the cares in the world were thrown away.

Iza walked to the nearest stool and sat and held her head in her hands.

Isolde looked up long enough to give Iza an irritated look, before dropping her head back down.

Veronica looked up.
"Welcome! How may I help you today?"

Iza looked up hoping that it was an angel to tkae her away, but when she saw it was only the waitress all she could do was frown.
"Nobody can help me."She said laying her head in her hands, "No, tell you what give me some wine. Maybe that'll help."

Isolde scoffed.
"Wine? If you really want to forget your troubles, I'd recommend--"

"Shut up, Isolde." Veronica said hastily, pouring it up.

The last thing she needed was a drunk customer.

While Iza waited for her beverage, she looked around the lobby.

"This a beautiful Inn. Did you decorate it yourself?"Iza asked.

Veronica shook her head.
"I only work here part-time. I have another job..." she said, skillfully avoiding shedding light on just what that profession might be.

She handed Iza the drink, which Isolde smirked at.

"I've downed twice that without getting at all tipsy and OW!" she said, as Veronica kicked her the shin discreetly.

Iza raised one eyebrow at Isolde's snyde remark.
"She's right, This isn't going to help at all. Oh well, I don't feel like getting 'tipsy'."

She slowly sipped the wine and glanced over and looked at Isolde. She knew that she was un;ike anyone she had met before.

"I'm Iza."she said as she stuck out her hand to Isolde.

Isolde eyed the hand apprehensively, before shaking it.
"Uh yeah. Name's Isolde. Nice to meet you I guess...." she said, removing her hand. She reached into her pocket and removed her dagger, which she tossed up into the air and caught. Her hair covered one eye, and she was of small, yet strong build. Fiddling with the dagger once more, she looked up.

"What's wrong with you? WIne ain't gonna help, but sometimes talking to a stranger does."

Iza raised both eyebrows for an answer to her remark about strangers. It was true, sometimes it does help most people. Most being the key word. Iza was never the type of person who gave away information. She had always kept to herself. She was glad however to give away her name and introduce herself to people and take information from others, but when it came to givinf others information about herself it was not her strong suit.

"Um, I don't know. I suppose I'm just tired."Iza lied.

Isolde laughed.

"Wow, you're a pretty bad liar. I'm not exactly Miss Congeniality myself, but there's no need too lie about it." she said bluntly.

Veronica cringed at her sister's remark.
"You'll have to excuse her, she's--"

"I mean, come one," Isolde interrupted, "I've been alive for three hundred some-odd years. I can tell when somebody's lying to me."

Iza gave a blank stare at Isolde.
"That's Nice to know, but really, it's nothing. I just have had a long day"Iza lied once again, hoping that she was convincing Isolde.

Isolde gave her a doubtful look.

"Yeah, sure, that's all it is," she said drily, leaning her head on her hand, and staring at Iza.

"That must be it."

Iza glared at Isolde and rolled her eyes.
"Whatever, I would like to know where I could find the nearest undertakers. My grandfather just died recently, and i need an undertaker to prepare him."

Veronica looked saddedned.
"Oh, I am so sorry..." she began, but Isolde cut her off.

"Well, I am sorry to hear it, but if you are looking for undertakers, you're lookin at the only two for miles."

Iza's eyes brightened, but it quicky faded away.
"This is such a relief. You don't know how far I've come to find one. Ok, so I don't know how exactly this works. So cold you could you tell me what to dp with the body and such?"Iza asked

"Uhh yeah. Umm, where is it? Cuz I can bring it to our house. We have a graveyard out back." Isolde ssaid.

Iza blinked in amazement.
"You have a graveyard in your backyard? Wow, so is that where you bury te bodies you do or whoever wants there? Because my grandfather always said he wanted to rest in peace, in a private cemetary."Iza sated as she finished off the lst of her wine.

Veronica nodded.
"Yes. We're the village's 'keepers of the dead'." she said, smiling ruefully at the nickname the village children had bestowed upon her and her sister.

"Nice hobby. But still, I do need to get rid of the body and bury it. The body is in the shed on a table behind my house. How about you two drop by after your work is done for today. Does that sound ok?"Iza asked with a small smile on her face she usually gave to no one.

Isolde shrugged.

"I am off right now, and Ver's shift is up. So we can come get it now if you want."

Iz eyes lit up, except this time they stayed this way.
"That would be wonderful. Follow me."Iza said as she placed the wine glas on the counter and left the check and a tip.

Iza led them through he town, across Hyrule field, and, finally, around the lake to her log home.

"Here it is, Home-Sweet-Home."
Iza said turning and raising her arms beside her.

Isolde looked around, nodding appreciatively.

Veronica smiled.
"It's lovely."

"Thank you, now over here is the shed," Iza said pointing northeast.

Iza led them through the brush that surrounded the shed and opened the door. On the teble lied the casketand, obviously, insde was the body of her dead grandfather.

Isolde and Veronica, though small in frame, were a lot stronger than they looked, and between the three girls, it was soon over to the cart they had brought with them.
